Ralph Lauren photoshops model to look emaciated
6 comments
If there's a ever a reason to girlcott Ralph Lauren, it's THIS:
The company's advertisers photoshopped this model to the brink of death, making her look emaciated and sick.
The website BoingBoing.net criticized the image, and instead of addressing the well-deserved criticism, Ralph Lauren threatened the website with a lawsuit for reproducing a copyrighted ad... even though, as the website's writers then pointed out, they were using it for completely legit reasons: news reporting and criticism.
And their criticism was highly justified. My thoughts are that Ralph Lauren reps are just upset that they were called out on their shit.

The crime here is CRAPPY photoshopping, not SEXIST photoshopping.
As a fashion designer, I can appreciate the impulse to smooth things out in an ad and aim for the 7.5 waist-to-hip ratio... that's aesthetically pleasing and registers in the brain as an indication of fertility and, therefore, beauty.
The problem is the person doing the photoshop work looked at it too close and too long and didn't manage to notice how stupid it looked by the end. She doesn't look "emaciated," she looks MUTATED. It's not a personal attack on her, or any women, it's just low-quality work.

i think its just make to fool audience. For instance, i think advertisers make consumers eager to buy things and make it desire for things in their daily life. Ads tell people in society who they are and who they should be.

I think the most shocking thing about this ad is that people actually want to look like that girl. Sure, I'd love to look great wearing Ralph Lauren, but the girl looks sickly! Not only does she look way too skinny, but the photoshopping done on her amps up her sexuality. The ad is sexualizing her by making her boobs huge and her waist small; with apparently all the right curves. If you ask me, Ralph Lauren made two very bad moves with this ad.

Well, mostly people like to wear popular brand clothes. however, the models who wear this kind of clothes makes people eager to think about those sick models who are sexualizing in front of audience by making their body very weird.
