Quote of the Day: the Pope fails at sex education

"You can't resolve [the problem of HIV/AIDS] with the distribution of condoms. On the contrary, it increases the problem." - Pope Benedict XVI

Major fail. From MayoClinic.com:

By blocking the exchange of body fluids that might contain infectious agents, latex condoms provide the best protection available against STDs. Used consistently and correctly, condoms are highly effective at preventing the transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the virus that causes AIDS, and at reducing the risk of infection from other STDs, such as gonorrhea and chlamydia.

Please don't rely on the Pope as your source of sex education. Use condoms.

What next?

Well, at least they're not raping kids again.

I can't believe that the Pope would be so willfully contradictory to a device that could EASILY keep people from contracting this deadly disease. Just because this device is also a contraceptive and therefore against Catholic doctrine, does that mean people should suffer? This infuriates me. So many uninformed people will take this as truth and increase the presence of AIDS especially in "third world" countries.

And by the way, I am really bothered by the way people constantly bring up child rape whenever they have a complaint about Catholics, especially in response to scenarios that have nothing to do with it. It's stupid.

    I agree, Heather.
