Somali girl stoned to death after reporting rape
2 comments
In Somalia, a 13-year-old girl reported that she was raped by three men. In the United States, we have the luxury of being able to take any sex offenders to court and possibly (hopefully) get their asses thrown in jail. In Somalia, an impoverished and violent country with no functioning government, Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow was not offered the option to bring these men to court. Instead, she was charged with adultery. In the middle of a stadium packed with 1,000 spectators, she was stoned to death by a group of men.
Stoned to death. For reporting a rape.
The treatment of women is not perfect in the U.S., but in other countries, it's appalling.
What You Can Do:

I am saddened by this awful tragedy. I hope her murderers shall hang someday, but I doubt they shall ever be brought to human justice. But could women's organizations not organize a scholarship fund for Somali girls, so that Aisha Duhulow's name shall not be forgotten, and to shame her killers? I'd contribute.

It is disheartening to hear that Medieval practices such as stoning are still taking place throughout the world. It still amazes me that I can go to college and get a degree in the same world that a woman can get stoned for being raped. Nations should really call each other out on their wrong doings and say that treating women like that is not ok!
