Woman allegedly attacked over McCain sticker
25 comments
Ashley Todd, a 20-year-old volunteer for the McCain-Palin campaign, claimed that she was attacked while taking out money from an ATM in Pittsburgh Wednesday night. She says that a man came up behind her, put a knife to her neck, and demanded money. She gave him $60 and managed to walk away. However, she says the mugger then noticed her McCain bumper sticker on her car and went nuts. He allegedly hit her in the head, and pinned her to the ground where he proceeded to carve the letter B into her cheek, proclaiming, "You're going to be a Barack supporter now." This photo was released:
Originally, I didn't think to question this story. But after reading posts on other blogs that are more than skeptical, I'm inclined to call "hoax" on this one. First of all, the "B" is extremely light - it's almost more of a scratch than a knife wound. Secondly, why is the "B" backwards? She claimed the man sat on her chest and pinned her arms down with his knees while he carved it, so there is no reason for the "B" to look like that. People are starting to envision her carving it herself in a mirror, thus the reason it was backwards. Also, that black eye looks a little fishy. Shouldn't there be some swelling? And why is the "B" so incredibly perfect? Wouldn't she be struggling to get away? How would anyone be able to keep a steady hand in that situation?
Lastly, Ashley's story is beginning to change. First she claimed it was the McCain sticker that angered the attacker, and now she's saying it may have been a McCain button on her jacket. Also, she's now claiming that she lost consciousness at one point and that the attacker sexually harassed her.
I don't know. Some are unsure of why she might have faked this, but I think her motives were clear. I mean, she was a volunteer for the McCain campaign, and this attack certainly makes Obama supporters look bad. Even Michelle Malkin is skeptical.
So what do you think? Real or hoax?

wow, you really ARE a biased pig.
Just like the ACORN Fraud deniers..until the Registration for MICKEY MOUSE was proven.
October 24, 2008 at 12:23 PM
This looks like she faked it IMO.
October 24, 2008 at 12:32 PM
Looks like they aren't finding enough crazies supporting Obama to match the crazies they have supporting McCain so they are creating their own.
You really have to love the creativity in this ladies story. She should run for office next time.
BTW/Nobody denies that there was fraud in ACORN by their employees. But ACORN should be the ones angry since they paid their employees to register voters and their employees didn't do their job and instead lied so they could continue making money. That isn't the organizations fault so I'm sure Mr. Obama is pretty pissed about it too. Besides, Mickey Mouse won't be showing on election day, any dip should know that.

This is an Obama-nation!
October 24, 2008 at 12:47 PM
Obviously a far left liberal did this. You don't see Republicans doing this type of act. You don't see headlines that say "A big group of Republicans broke a town hall window out in protest of" etc etc...find one and post it here you liberal idiots. One word, get a job.
October 24, 2008 at 12:54 PM
I scream fashion:
typical liberal comment
One who cares:
Acorn is responsible and did know..
This is Obama Nation:
You are clouded by popularity and aren't looking at the facts.
Everyone else, come back and read this when Mccain is in office. I will let Palin slap you.
October 24, 2008 at 12:57 PM
It does look fake. The "B" is backwards and not even bleeding. The "black eyes" looked like only dark makeup to be before I read the post.
Dear "anonymous": You are the biased pig for believing ANYTHING because it has to do with a McCain/Palin supporter. Noooo, a Republican could NEVER do anything to mislead people or lie! *sarcasm* Pfft.
"You don't see Republicans doing this type of act. You don't see headlines that say "A big group of Republicans broke a town hall window out in protest of" etc." Oh, really? What about all the Republicans supporters that attack women's clinics and the women that go there? What about all the Republicans who threatened to kill Obama because he's black? I'm sure this girl is a McCain supporter and wanted to say "look how evil Obama supporters are".
You are one of those Republicans who makes McCain look bad. You are one of those angry-at-everything-different-than-you, bitter, blindly-follow-tradition, blindly-follow-religion, nutjobs that cause problems like this for his campaign! Oh - And you're also elitist. You thinking you're better than every liberal because you're conservative and calling us idiots - yeah, you're an elitist.
And FTI, posting a blog does not mean someone doesn't have a job. Being liberal doesn't mean someone doesn't have a job. In fact, considering the economy your dearest Bush left us with, you're pretty likely not to have a job right now!
Now, go cry in your corner because the rest of the country is starting to wake up to the fact that we can't have a bunch of stuffy, old, angry, traditionalist white guys in the white house anymore! Troll.
October 24, 2008 at 12:59 PM
And he is still posting his angry, bitter, elitist nonsense - Looks like someone else needs to get a job!
October 24, 2008 at 1:09 PM
Jesus...if it's true well that just sucks
but the "b" and the black eye does look fishy...hmmmm....

cleaning the gutter for macain.
October 24, 2008 at 1:23 PM
"cleaning the gutter for macain."
Sorry, bud. It's people like this girl (and hateful people like you) that hurt and make the McCain campaign look bad. Those types of people are the scum that need to be cleared away.

Wow, all these anonymous comments are obnoxious.
Even if you disagree with Amy, at least she states her opinions and doesn't hide her identity.
Civil debate is valued, people. Show respect for other's opinions and you'll probably get respect in return.

There is no such thing as "biased" in a blog. A blog gives the author the right to say whatever s/he chooses. This is a left-wing feminist blog, and I have no obligation to remain neutral for my readers. If you disagree with my views, feel free to leave and find a right-wing blog. There are plenty out there.
And by the way, Michelle Malkin is extremely conservative and even SHE questioned the truthfulness in this case.
Jen has it completely right. Let's talk about Paul Hill who was an extremely conservative and religious American who shot and killed a doctor that provided abortions. Let's talk about the conservative homophobes who beat Matthew Shepard to death in Wyoming. Violence comes from all sides.
And apparently, so does hate speech, since you have chosen to spend your day verbally attacking me and my readers.
October 24, 2008 at 1:40 PM
Hmm. I wanted to respond to the Anonymous comments individually, but there are so many! Are they same troll or several different trolls? Either way...sad...
Anyway- to the one that thinks "get a job" is one word, the one that said that there are no such crazies within McCain supporters (ignoring, of course, all of the racists who spew hate speech and spread lies about Obama) you must have already forgotten about this: http://www.foxreno.com/news/17331068/detail.html
(Obama supporter stabbed in the face)
I wouldn't first have doubted it either, but that black eye is...well, BLACK. Black eyes are purple or black & blue, maybe yellowish. But not LITERALLY black. It's a pretty decent black eye though, for smudged eyeshadow.
Seriously, though. Everyone posting anonymously. Frigging grow a pair and post with an identity. Unless you're ashamed of yourself, which is understandable.
October 24, 2008 at 1:49 PM
Also, to that first "anonymous commenter":
Do you not see the irony in calling someone else a biased pig? Name calling is biased. And you yourself are clearly biased against anything perceived as "liberal".
Amy was not being disrespectful in her skepticism. And anyway, as a feminist, I'm sure her bias would normally lean towards siding with the victim. But when you start to look at the facts here, something doesn't seem right.
It's ok to question some things. Even things done by people who you support in other cases. Don't follow or believe anything blindly. It will never serve you well.
If you do disagree with someone, why not try to bring it up in a respectful, adult manner? Unless all you do all day is troll around the 'net for supposed "liberal" blogs to drop comment bombs on and running away with an odd sense of accomplishment and self-satisfaction and aren't looking to engage anyone intellectually...

Gotta love the trolls.
Think Progress has also posted about this as a hoax. I guess that answers the question. I wonder what she really thought she was going to accomplish...
October 24, 2008 at 4:27 PM
To the person who said this:
"Obviously a far left liberal did this. You don't see Republicans doing this type of act. You don't see headlines that say "A big group of Republicans broke a town hall window out in protest of" etc etc...find one and post it here you liberal idiots."
Yeah, you're soooo right. Republicans don't do anything that bad. I mean, the worst thing anyone every aligned with the Republican ideology can ever claim to was simple fraud or money laundering right? It's not like they've ever blown up a government building with children it it . . . oh, wait. Timothy McVeigh was a registered Republican according to CNN.com.
But you're still right. I mean even for the looking-for-attention issue alone . . . oh, wait, the right-wind political pundit Morton Downey Jr said he was "attacked" by skinheads and we all remember how desperate a move that was.
So, why don't we see this as what it truly is: a pathetic cry for attention. There's no reason to say that it's left- or right-wing motivated.
My one word for you is: delusional.
See, ONE word. One. At least my liberal-leaning teachers taught me how to count.
October 24, 2008 at 5:01 PM
WHAT A BIG FAT LIAR! It's out in the news that this was a lie!
October 24, 2008 at 6:21 PM
scarry how far these Democraps will go to support Obama. It's obvious that she was a DEM, doing this, to try and make Republicans look bad.
you are all such rapid yeast infections..
October 24, 2008 at 7:32 PM
You wit astounds me.
October 25, 2008 at 2:25 AM
First, "anonymous" claims how this is proof of the violent, idiodic liberals doing harm against the goodie girl conservatives. When shown it WAS a fake, he claims she was a liberal trying to make the conservatives look stupid. And WE are the biased ones... I think the one that believes conservatives could NEVER do anything wrong or stupid, and ALWAYS believing they are right because they are conservative, and hating EVERYONE that doesn't think just like they do... is the biased one (and stupid).
Are you now ignoring the fact that she was a MCCAIN CAMPAIGN VOLUNTEER??? No liberal would do that.
October 25, 2008 at 12:51 PM
The Internet: Allowing Ignorant Morons to Remain Anonymous Because They Are Too Fucking Scared to Show Their True Identity.
First of all, we know this is fake. But even if it were true (which would be terrible)... and a left-wing Obama supporter did this to her, you couldn't say that was representative of the rest of us. I mean, if you're a Republican, should I automatically assume you're a rifle-toting, toothless, racist, sexist, piece of shit redneck? Let's be fair now.
