Loving Republicans
2 comments
This article on Yahoo! News put a smile on my face. It's called "My brother's a Republican, but I love him anyway" and the title basically explains it all. It's a good read for anyone who struggles with a similar situation. It can be extremely hard to have a relationship with someone who holds political views that are the complete opposite of yours. This year, I've come to be friends with someone who's a registered Republican, has a John McCain calendar in his room, is against abortion rights, and doesn't support same-sex marriage. I often wonder if our friendship can truly work. It's hard... but I believe it can be done.
My dad and I were debating politics via e-mail. He's a registered Republican, but I would label him a moderate. Things were getting heated, I sent him a snappy e-mail, and I expected a similar reply back. Instead, all he sent me was an e-mail saying, "I love the fact that you're so engaged!" I think everyone can find common ground, especially if it's with someone who means a lot to you.

I feel like the McCain calendar would look like a boring version of the Zoolander calendar... same face for each month (only instead of "Le Tigre", "Ferrari", and "Blue Steel" it would be "Time for Meds", "Matlock's On!", and "Bingo's at 4").
