Slam poetry by women

In my quest to write my very first slam poem, I turned to YouTube videos of various poets performing for inspiration. Since slam poetry is a male-dominated area, I tried to find the few women who made it big. Some of these women are fantastic, and I wanted to share these videos with you. Slam poetry is a wonderful way to send a political message in one of the strongest ways possible.

Here's my favorite, Andrea Gibson (trigger warning for the second video - it's a very intense poem about rape):

This is Vanessa Hidary, the "Hebrew Mamita":

Here's the fabulous Amalia Ortiz, whose poem here covers the same topic as the one I'm working on:

This poem by Sista Queen is another one of my favorites:

And here's a lovely poem to make you smile, by Tamara Blue:

There are so many talented women.

What next?

    Yeah,
    Slam poetry is amazing.

You should look up Gina Loring, Zora (don't know the last name), and Mayda del Valle. They have a hip hop thing going for them, and it's nice.

Slam poetry is poetry that is written and performed with a rhythm - almost like a rap. Slam poems often have political themes.

Andrea Gibson's style reminds me so much of Rives, and that's a HUUUUUGE compliment, because he's royal and I love him to death, and she's royal with EXTRA passion. Amazing.

I think that Gibson is the most great person who are slam poetry in the world because he feels his words and he says so romatic things.

Did you know that Andrea professes that she always writes to music and so it was natural to put music together for the album. This album was also her effort to write about what she was afraid to write about?? I think that he is a good singer!
