Dora the Explorer "grows up"
2 commentsI am so sad.
Dora the Explorer, the wonderful, bilingual, adventurous positive role model on Nickelodeon is getting a makeover. That's right. This is what our world has come to. According to ParentDish:
The new Dora, who will be revealed in the fall, lives in the big city and goes to middle school. She still solves mysteries but she's abandoned outdoor adventure for shopping, jewelry and fashion.
No. No no no no no. How can they possibly makeover the one rare positive role model for young girls and turn her into some sexualized superficial tween who does nothing but promote negative stereotypes? NOT OKAY. To object to this, please sign this online petition.

signed. wtf is this. Dora is amazing! She is the only doll my 4 year old cousin owns that doesn't come with a "going out to a party" outfit. I really hope this new Dora is never revealed.

Just signed. I'm disgusted by this. I did find it out when they separated Dora & Diego. Like, why can't boys love a female character for once?
Dora is loved because she is the opposite of all the other vapid, over sexed female icons for young girls. Are they just going to make her another Bratz doll?
And what about the Pre-K set now? Who will be their icon? Or should they already be wearing training bras and figuring out what lip gloss brings out their eyes best?
Little girls like adventures too! They like learning and hearing other languages and having fun. Growing up means enough pressure as it is! Let these kids have the few years they're still allocated to be CHILDREN!
