Morning after pill

I feel like, even though it is an important thing, a large part of society has not come to terms with the morning after pill. During semester break, a friend of mine had been drinking, and she ended up having unprotected sex. She was so completely ashamed of what she had done, and just wanted to make sure that her guilt was the only consequence. I took her to Walgreens that morning, and said I'd go buy the pill for her. I went into the store, and asked the 40-something women at the counter if I could have the morning after pill. The look I recieved from her was such a scandalized one that I'll never forget it. Was it really so bad that people want to prevent an unwanted pregnancy? Especially college students who can barely afford school, let alone carrying a baby to term. The thing I hated the most was how quickly she judged me. I'm still a virgin, I didn't do anything. All I was trying to do was be a good friend.

What next?

The way the lady treated you was completely inappropriate, she has no right to judge you or make you feel uncomfortable. It also angers me when women are made to feel embarrassed for having sex. Personally I have decided to abstain till marriage for religious reasons, but when I hear girls being called sluts for having sex it makes me mad. If a girl wants to have sex, I think she should feel free to, as long as she is the right age. In this case your friend didn't do it intentionally but had society not stigmatized it so much she might not have felt so much shame.

I hate how quickly people are to judge. Just because you were buying the pill didn't mean that YOU needed it. People buy those for friends so often. I bet 50% of the time the person buying the pill isn't the one taking it. I have a similar experience like this. I am on Birth Control because I get large, severe ovarian cysts and have a very painful period. Yet when people see me take my medicine, or pick up my medicine from the pharmacy I feel instantly judge, just like you were. Today, so many girls are on birth control for reason other than being sexually active. I know you are talking about the morning after pill....but the instant judging and disapproval that I feel is probably similar to what you felt when buying the morning after pill for a friend. Noone should judge. I with birth control and the morning after pill for people who aren't ready to have children.

The thing that amaze me the most, it is that people are a favor of those unwanted childrens but none of them will help the people that they have it to raise those kids.
