Labor unions are a feminist issue

Unions exist as a way to take a chunk of power away from the overly-powerful corporations and place it in the hands of workers. Though working conditions have improved over the years, many companies are still getting away with exploiting workers through means such as unlawful firing and unequal pay. All people, women especially, need job security to ensure economic independence. But some corporations value profit over the well-being of their workers. Starbucks is one company that is guilty of this.

That really surprises me because I know that Starbucks gives health benefits even to part-timers, and those benefits begin the day of hire. You would think since they are so against unions and so far improving the bottom line no matter what that they wouldn't give such benefits.

I know Wallmart is a big one too, I heard of a woman who worked there for ten years. She got injured in a car accident, and Wallmart refused to pay for her medical bills. I also heard in a town in Quebec that had a Wallmart shut down because people who worked there wanted to start a union.
