Christian high school can expel students based on sexual orientation

Stories like this make me wish that I could fast-forward about 50 years to a time when GLBT people are accepted and loved, and people scoff at the discriminatory practices of the past.

A California appeals court ruled that a Christian high school has every right to expel students because of an alleged lesbian relationship. Apparently, the school is not bound by the same anti-discrimination laws as a business establishment. This case was brought to the courts when two girls sued their high school after they were expelled.

And so "love thy neighbor" continues to be ignored, and religion continues to be used as a way to exclude entire groups of people.

What next?

What's sad is that since they are a private institution, they absolutely have the legal right to do this. But that doesn't mean that anyone should stop trying to fight it. And I do find it sad that just because they CAN, means they WILL. If they're really afraid for this girl's "soul" for being gay, wouldn't it be smarter to keep her in school, hoping all that God stuff can rub off on her? I'm not saying any of that makes sense, but it should make sense to the school. Since when did Christ caste out sinners (those who think being gay is a sin, that is), instead of accepting them and trying to help them?

Although, if they did keep her in school, they'd probably just make her take an anti-gay brainwashing seminar and use her as a bad example for the other students. So maybe it's for the best she go to a less insane school.
