Take that, math class

Whoever made the decision to have the 1992 talking Barbie doll utter that terrible phrase, "Math class is tough!" can suck it, because new stats are showing that girls are kicking butt when it comes to math.

A recent study that involved examining test scores since 2002 found no significant differences in the math scores amongst boys and girls. And women are now earning 48% of undergraduate college degrees in math.

So, while math may not be my forte, other females are proving that our brains are not "wired differently." We just needed some time to realize our full potential.

What next?

I always hate the talk of how women's brains are wired differently and therefore we are not better at math. Women have historically not been encouraged to like math or pursue a career in mathematics, which would explain why lots of women weren't involved in the field. I'm glad to hear that more and more women are getting involved in these careers and doing well in school.

I think it's interesting that my field (speech-language pathology) is so female-dominated... even in the higher-up, medical setting. In the entire program of like 60-80 people, there is one guy. I think a longer time ago speech-language pathologists were functioning more like teachers, which is maybe why more women got involved... and now that it is more and more involved in the medical setting (I am getting my M.S. and they're pushing for there to be a PhD requirement), these women are pursuing their advanced degrees. It's cool :)

LOL I wish I had the wit to have used that in one of my math tests!
