Take Action Tuesday: speak out against political sexism

NOW (National Organization of Women) put together a "Hall of Shame" list that spotlights the 2008 election's most sexist moments. Samples from the list:

Glenn Beck calls Hillary a "stereotypical bitch" and says that when she speaks, it sounds like his wife asking him to "take out the garbage."

Cameron Cardow draws an insulting and degrading political cartoon.

Double whammy: sexism and racism shines through Cal Thomas' commentary on "angry black women."

So how can you take action besides getting really, really angry? NOW offers an opportunity to speak out - each "hall of shame" entry is followed by a link to send a letter to the offender or the offender's network. So, click here to view the rest of the shameful list, and go nuts (please)!

What next?

Why is it bad that a black woman is angry that her son's been shot (which is another black stereotype...)? Anyone would be angry at that, including the racist fuck who said that. And guess what man... there's a ton of people out there other than black women that are angry at Bush... some are white men who previously voted for him!

As for the political cartoon... why does it have to show her as obese? She is no where near obese. All political cartoons I've seen of her show her as, at least, with a huge ass. This is just another way of putting her down as a woman and expressing that she's not doing what a woman is "supposed" to be doing - looking cute, innocent, naive, and thin for male eyes.

As for the one calling her a stereotypical bitch... he sees her as a stereotypical bitch because the idea of a "bitch" is someone who doesn't just sit behind a man and let a man control her, there stereotypical "good 50s wife". How DARE a woman have an opinion, how DARE a woman stand up for what she believes in, how DARE she be strong and assertive! Any sexist person who sees women in this light is automatically going to hear her voice as nagging, whether or not the tone actually is, just because of the hatred men like that have for women that aren't just giggling and having sex with them on cue.

    FUCK!
